The Magic of a Winter Wonderland—In a Church Parking Lot!
As a wedding photographer, I love finding beauty in unexpected places. And let me tell you—this snowy January wedding in Listowel, Ontario, was the perfect example of how even the most unassuming locations can turn into breathtaking backdrops. Every single one of the portraits from E+J’s wedding was taken in a church parking lot. Yes, you read that right!
When most couples think about their wedding photos, they imagine grand estates, lush gardens, or stunning landscapes. But the truth is, the magic isn’t in the location—it’s in the light, the moment, and the connection between two people in love. And on this particular day, nature gave us the most incredible gift: fresh snow, soft overcast skies, and the kind of winter wonderland that photographers dream of.
The snow-covered trees lining the lot acted as a perfect, natural backdrop, making the photos feel like they were taken deep in a serene forest rather than just steps away from the church doors. The muted tones of winter allowed E+J to truly shine, their love and warmth standing out against the crisp white surroundings. The soft, diffused light of a snowy day is an absolute dream for wedding photography—no harsh shadows, just the perfect glow to highlight every tender glance and joyful laugh.
This is why I always tell my couples: Don’t stress too much about the location! A skilled photographer can create magic anywhere. Whether it’s a small-town parking lot or a lavish venue, the key is to embrace the moment, trust the process, and let your love do the rest.
So if you’re planning a winter wedding, take heart—no matter where you are, there’s beauty to be found. And sometimes, the most unexpected places turn out to be the most magical of all.
